Motion Collabs is "a community of motion designers that invite fellow creatives to join us on our journey to grow as designers and artists." Every few months it sends out a call for creatives to come together to work on videos related to some theme, either as personal or collaborative projects. Each time I sign up I surprise myself in what I'm able to produce.

This challenge gave everyone a month to create a 30' animated piece based on the theme of solarpunk, an aesthetic movement that imagines an optimistic future of advanced technology married to environmental sustainability. I decided to do it all in collage, using vintage paper materials that I scanned one by one. After playing with different elements, I settled on a solar-powered drone craft that harvests water from clouds and then brings it to drought-stricken areas.

I worked with the online group Motion Collabs to help create a music video for the Earth, Wind & Fire classic "Shining Star," which turned out to be one of the most fun experiences of my motion career thus far. Always fascinating to see what one's imagination can come up with when pressed (including Horus-winged disco balls).
